Turtle Project - Sea Turtle Oversight Protection HelpersLetter from Justin Gould: Date: Saturday, September 11, 2010, 3:58 PM Dear friends. I personally took this video footage on South Ft. Lauderdale beach on September 1st 2010. As you can see, we have a HUGE problem. This issue has completely consumed the lives of our volunteers and must be stopped. I am sharing this with you to PLEA for your help to expose this dark secret in Ft. Lauderdale so we can put an end to it once and for all. I lost an entire nest this morning (9/12) to these very same lights and was only able to recover four.
Thank you. PLEASE Share on Facebook, Twitter, Email, Blogs Write letters to code, the mayor, the press... YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE! Thank you, Justin Gould VP Sea Turtle Oversight Protection

Excertp by Capatin Lanny. If you missed this local adventure, you missed a great educational afternoon, plus the chance to be with your fun-loving club members. On Saturday, February 26th, the long anticipated Boater 101 adventure took place at Jimbo's Seafood in Dania Beach. Twenty plus arrived ready to learn. Lee and Deb Ladig brought their boats as "guinea pigs" Thank you very much gals!! After a 40 minute basic class over Bloody Mary's, by Capt Lanny, we were ready to board the boats for hands on instruction. Although we did not leave the dock, we learned what makes the perfect guest aboard someone else's boat, how to use a radio, tie knots, all about anchoring, and many other discussions were had.
By the end of the course all had learned to be that good guest and valuable mate aboard someone else's boat. It is very important when you are invited as a guest to ask the following before arriving for a fun day of fishing. The highlights were... "what can I bring?" "may I bring one favorite pole?" Do not wear black marking soles or high heels. Ask your skipper the rules of the boat before leaving the dock and ask how may I help you through out the trip? If you don't understand, ask and your skipper and they will explain.
If you get seasick it may not be a good idea to ride along unless you plan on "toughing it out." Bring some baggies in case you catch fish. Bring some cash to help pay for gas. (this is more important than ever now that prices are soaring) Help to clean the boat. Most important if you are new to fishing watch watch, watch and learn learn, learn. Some fisher women (Lee) ha ,ha are very intense while fishing and must raise the fish by quiet telepathy. I personally heard from several" I do not go out cause I have no one to go with". You will after this course. Skippers, don't be afraid to lay the ground rules. It is your boat and your decisions as to what to expect from guests.
After our training we had a wonderful lunch by the water watching the boats and learning about WAKE and no wake as the boats rocked at the dock. So if you missed this adventure, don't forget to attend the next one. We always have a great time.
